Teaching philosophyMy teaching goals are two-fold: to prepare the next generation of biologists and to train a class of life-long learners. To accomplish these goals, I use principles from constructivist teaching theory: that the student should be an active participant in the learning process, and that my role as an instructor is to create an environment and materials that facilitate reflection, problem solving, and teamwork. This philosophy is grounded in my personal experiences and in the study of pedagogical techniques that motivate students, increase retention, and improve understanding of core concepts.
